I'm going to be popping up the songs that make me tick, songs I have loved over the years, either they make me think, make me dance, make me emotional, happy, sad, you get the picture.

To start this off, I have gone back to a song that was recorded 10 years or more before I was born, there is something about this that makes me tingle, a hairs on the back of neck sort of moment, hope you like it--

This next one could be described as being quite cheesy, and in this clip it's hosted by Tony Blackburn, which raises the cheese level even more!
This song was played all the time in the early 70's, always popping up on the Light entertainment shows we used to have back then, I liked it, it was a ballad that really went for it, a good sing a long one this, enjoy--

Moving on now to the latter part of the 70's, I'm going to pop up two songs from this period, the first one, Elvis Costello's "Red Shoes" turned me on to this suburban form of music, I could see and hear that music and people were changing, and this was highlighted in my second choice, it has to be The Sex Pistols and "God save the queen", even though I was a young lad, I still pogo'd along to this at the time, not really understanding it but liking it.

Moving on now, to the late 70s, and throughout the 80s, obviously this would be chockablock full of dexys, and we can all view those songs when and where we like, but I am going to limit my self to 5 songs from this period.
As well as a "soul boy" I was a "2tone boy" also, Madness,Selector,The Beat,Bad Manners and of Course The Specials played a massive part of my life, Ive picked this one by The Specials, mainly because of this energy but also because it widened my musical tastes-

Also a big Stranglers fan, picked this one again because of it's energy but also I loved the vid at the time, this is the rock and roller part of SR1--

ok, so this leaves me with three more tracks from the 80s, one early, one middle and one late 80's, My eary 80's choice would be something I would play ovr and over again as a kid, on a little tape recorder, would drive my parents nuts, but again, this was different and a classical song! pick your jaws up, this is bloody good--

This one, from the mid 80's from former Haircut 100 lead singer Nick Heywood had me curious for a long long time, convinced as I was that it was dexys playing all the instruments in this song, I don't think it was, but it still sounds brilliant-

and finally from the 80's this, from Basingstoke's own Joan Armatrading-a-like, Tanita Tikaram, maybe it's because Helen O'Hara/Bevington was so heavily involved in Tanita's songs, maybe because I fancied her like rotten, maybe because I just liked her songs, it all came together, and I liked this song from her debut album, enjoy--back later with my 90's/00's and latter day choices, engrossed? I am sure you are!--

OK then, the 90's to the present day..

I sort of dabbled a bit with dance music during the 90's, not too much, I didn't go to raves and spend nights out of my head on "E" but i did like some of the music, the dance phase can be summed up pretty well by The KLF, Drummond and Caulty were a sort of punk branch of dance music, Last Train to Transcentral was my fave of their hits but the song I would pop up in a track listing would be this, lovely to chill out to!--

As I missed him out in my 80's list I am going to include Adam Ant here in the 90's list, his "Wonderful" album is a must have, full of grown up antmusic, and his vocals as strong as ever, highlighted by the title track from the album-

and finally to round things off, the man who used to be known as Terence Trent D'arby but these days goes under the moniker of Sananda Matreya, his album in the late 90's/early 00's, saw him return to his own soul boy roots from his debut album "Introducing the hardline" , this track shows off his vocals and song writing, this man can sing-

So, that's the tracks from my years, what are yours?
